State Sen. Emil Jones III Summer Internship Program – Apply by June 15, 2013

State Sen. Emil Jones III is seeking summer interns to help with constituent outreach, basic legislative research and office duties and event planning and promotion efforts. Summer interns for Sen. Jones will be given the opportunity to work with the Senator and assist district office personnel in performing a variety of daily tasks such as basic traditional office work, file keeping and organization, constituent response intake and management, issue research and compiling of daily media clips on relevant issues and topics, aiding in preparing memos or other briefing materials for the Senator and the office staff and event coordination and preparation.
Interns are expected to work semi-independently in completion of assigned tasks and work for and with the Senator and his District office personnel in an efficient and organized fashion. Ideal intern candidates would possess the following qualities and skill sets:
• Adaptability and flexibility
• Ability to think quickly and critically
• An interest in local and state politics
• Basic understanding of Illinois government process and systems
• Passion for public service and commitment to working with Sen. Jones and his staff to help advance his legislative agenda in serving the citizens of Illinois’ 14th Legislative District
• Ability to forge and sustain solid professional, working relationships with the Senate and District Office staff as well as community leaders, activists and organizations vital to the 14th District
• Strong interpersonal communication skills as well as basic office administration and internet research capabilities
• Willingness to participate in community outreach efforts and events
• Willingness and ability to take direction from supervisors and cooperate with co-workers
• Basic typing and writing skills
• Proficiency in computer programs essential to office operation and management, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
• Above all, a desire to learn and strong work ethic
