Urban Health Initiative & South Side Health Care Collaborative

The Urban Health Initiative (UHI) of University of Chicago and the South Side Health Care Collaborative are committed to better health on the South Side.

UHI is a partnership between the University of Chicago Medical Center, public leaders, community groups and health care professionals.  All of these individuals are committed to improving the quality of health for South Side residents.  They also attempt to give them access to quality care regardless of income.

The South Side Healthcare Collaborative encourages preventative care by connecting individuals to primary care physicians at community centers.  Providers also provide referrals to specialists.  The services of SSHC not only helps build a doctor-patient relationship, it also helps to reduce major long-term illnesses and medical expenses for patients which creates financial worries.  Nothing beats a peace of mind.

Photos from Jackson Park Tour – August 21 2010

I should be ashamed to admit that I didn’t know much about the South Side even though I was born and raised here prior to becoming Your South side Resource.  In addition to reading books to gain knowledge, I am seeking out tours and other events to educate myself .

I joined the Windy City Tours group on a Jackson Park on Saturday August21, 2010.  Headed by Joe Steffan, we learned about The World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, Osaka Garden and a host of other interesting facts.  Since much of the information  escapes me right now, here are a few photos to fill in the blanks.

Enjoy!
