I was a single mother when we met. I wondered why a single, professional man would take on the responsibility of a woman with two kids, but he did, without hesitation. I now know that God gifted me with an angel who made me believe in the power and beauty of Fatherhood. “Pop”, as our eldest son calls him, is the only father that my son has known.
We later had “our” third child. In twenty years, he’s never made a difference between the they’s and we’s. We are all one family—one unit who he loves tremendously and for whom he sacrifices equally. He has provided a consistent and positive example for our kids—particularly our boys—of manhood and integrity.

My beloved husband, Lue Williams, should receive the gift certificate from Park 52 because he is a God-fearing man who loves the Lord and his family. He loves reading bible stories and singing off key while giving the kids a bath. Other enjoyable moments are watching the kids’ favorite movie UP, which brings them to tears each time they watch it. Lue and Mannie act the scenes of the movie out. They are absolutely hilarious together! Lastly, the following qualities make him an awesome Dad.

Begin at Harborside Golf Course, 110th & Doty Ave. Experience nature and industry on this 15 mile ride. See Lake Calumet, wetland marshes, migrating and shore birds, the Calumet River, landfills, amazing bridges. A piece of Chicago seldom seen.
Roughly three hours. Bring a lunch and water. Wear a helmet.

50 Reasons to Nominate Your Father for Father’s Day Contest

The first reason why you should nominate your father is…he’s your father. Fast forwarding to reason number 50, that is the amount of the gift certificate from Park 52 restaurant in Chicago’s Hyde Park Community.
To win the certificate, you must tell me why, either in writing, photo slideshow, or video, what makes any deserving father in your life a good father. Written submissions should be 100 words or less. Slideshows and videos can be up to 2 minutes.
Be sure to include:
• Name of nominee
• Why the person should receive the certificate
• A photo of the nominee (not required, but nice)
• Your name and relationship
The winner will be determined by the number of comments (votes) for individual posts, which means you will have to encourage people to visit Shorty and vote for your caregiver. The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 4, 2010. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
