Work out for free from Jan. 3-9, 2012 at any of the Chicago Park District’s 71 fitness centers located throughout the city. If you extend your membership into either a three-month or annual gold card membership will receive a complimentary Nike cinch bag, while supplies last. Chicago Park District

The Chicago Park District/Jazz Institute of Chicago Jazz Ambassadors program is a 6 week paid internship for teens from 14 to 18 years of age that includes workshops in Jazz technique, ensemble work, composition, theory and more under the direction of three Jazz mentors.   As an ensemble, the Jazz Ambassadors will perform at several parks around the city and will record a CD.

If you qualify as a Jazz Ambassador -Intern you will have to audition your musical instrument for the program and you will be sent information about scheduling an audition time.   Auditions will only be scheduled on Monday, May 9, 2011 and Monday May 16, 2011 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  at the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL. 60605. For the audtion please be prepared to play a blues head and a tune of your choice. You will be required to play the melody and improvise over the changes.  Bass players will be required to show proficiency walking through the changes and soloing, and drummers will be required to display intimate knowledge of the form while accompanying and soloing.  You will also have to site read.

Young People Can Learn to Sew for $5 at Foster Park – Begins January 3rd

Yes, students can learn how to sew for the low price of $5 at Foster Park in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham Community.  That is a steal compared to what they are going to learn.  While I don’t have the exact age requirements, I do know that this class is for young people.

See “The Blind Side” at Metcalfe Park – July 27th

The movie “The Blind Side” will be shown at Metcalfe Park on Tuesday, July 27th.  Metcalfe Park is located at 43rd and State St. The movie is FREE and begins at dusk (around 8:30pm). You are welcome to bring snacks and blankets. Movies in the Park is showing more than 160 current and classic films until September 10th in neighborhood parks across the city.
